A Backyard Wedding During Christmas Time

a couple weeks before Christmas they got married in her parents' backyard, the very home she grew up in

This one here is extra sentimental for us.

You see, Jess's big sister was my high school bestie. And we've known this family for half our lives. We've seen this girl grow from being a little ballerina to wearing braces to dating boys to blossoming into this artistic, independent, kind hearted woman. ⁠

I still remember when her best friend was getting married, she showed me her bridesmaid dress as she talked about the day she'd get married. She wanted a small wedding, nothing extravagant and she was going to have us photograph it — girl kept to her word. ⁠

We all knew it would take an extra special guy to win over Jess. It may have taken a little longer than she would have wanted but once Will stepped into her life, it was all over.

A couple weeks before Christmas Jess married her person. In her parents' backyard, her childhood home, the home we all came to hang out at after school. She got ready in her parents' bathroom, the same bathroom we got ready in for her big sister's wedding. In the backyard they exchanged vows where there once was a huge trampoline we would jump on for hours. Their first dance they danced next to the pool where we had countless high school dance photos in front of.

A small wedding. Nothing extravagant. Marrying the man of her dreams. It was all that she ever wanted.

With backyard weddings it can sometimes be hard finding spots to take photos at where things aren't being set up or finding a place nearby that could work for photos. This was exactly the case for these two. We went over ideas and options but in the end we all decided the best thing was to do a session the day after their wedding. They were staying at a hotel near the beach so it was perfect. The day overcast, completely opposite from their wedding day, but they looked just as good.
