Intimate San Diego Destination Wedding

Kevin and Amanda live in North Carolina. And planned their entire San Diego destination wedding at Ellen Browning Scripps Park solely online. They had never even been to California, let alone La Jolla, where you’re surrounded with views of the Pacific Ocean and greeted with ocean breezes, but her parents had and they trusted that it was magical as they said. Spoiler: it was.
These two have known each other since high school, with Kevin working for her dad and him driving her to school everyday. But it wasn’t until long after graduation reconnecting over a cup of coffee when they realized they should be more. There were probably about less than thirty people at their wedding and you could feel the support from every person there for these two, it was beautiful.
Everyone there had a history and were connected one way or another. From Amanda’s mom’s two longtime best friends, to Kevin’s best man who’s engaged to his sister, to Uncle Kevin who’s Kevin’s namesake. No introductions were needed except for us, where we instantly felt welcomed and part of this close knit group.
We love small weddings. There we said it. We ourselves had a small wedding and sometimes wish we had planned an even smaller one.
There is such a harmony to them. It feels like home. Like mom’s cookies and grandpa’s hugs. Familiar, warm, and inviting.
Kevin and Amanda had booked apartment rooms through a hotel that were right next to each other making it so easy for us to go back and forth as they got ready.
The best part was that we were walking distance to the ceremony site at Ellen Browning Scripps park.
With views of the Pacific Ocean and sound of seagulls above, it was all very picturesque.
The area they were originally supposed to have their ceremony at went under construction days before their wedding. Lucky for them though because they found a perfect spot at the park surrounded by low trees giving more privacy, where they were able to set up an alter and benches.
Amanda kept it together throughout the entire ceremony – it wasn’t until after when they had a moment to themselves when all the tears came down.
During photos we met up with Amanda’s parents in a parking garage where we found this perfectly coral pink wall. It was meant to be.
After photos we headed to dinner at La Jolla Shores Hotel. Amanda changed into the cutest jumpsuit and with the sun setting outside we knew we had to take a few more photos with them. They were able to share their first dance and touch the Pacific Ocean for the first time. So happy we shared these moments with them.
